Car audio crossovers are essential units of car audio systems that are often ignored. Crossover frequencies up so that each speaker receives a certain frequency range. This is for the following reasons:
To avoid damaging the speakers – speakers are for a specific range of frequencies to play. One speaker will distort if played other frequencies. These other frequencies can destroy it.
Total Balance – If a sound system withSubwoofers and full range speakers do not have a crossover, then it leads to a non-balanced sound. Sub Woofer play low frequencies well, because that's what they intended to do. Tweeter handle the high frequencies very well. A crossover is just the right frequency range in a particular speaker.
Crossovers vary in their flexibility. While some only a few frequencies to choose from, the others have a range of frequencies to choose from.
Types ofCrossovers
There are two types of crossovers – Active and Passive.
Delefilter need external power to operate, and work at low signal voltage levels. Signal from the head unit is divided into low frequencies, the mid frequencies and high frequencies. These go to different amplifiers.
Since everything is done at low voltages, is not affected as the signal with passive crossovers. There are a lot more flexibility, since all that is needed to adjust crossover frequenciesIt is in turn a knob.
However, there are additional amplifier channels required to connect speakers.
Passive Crossovers receive high levels and work for the amplifier. All the frequency splitting is drained after the amplifier more speakers can be an amplifier channel.
However, passive crossovers can become increasingly complex as more are added capacitors and inductors. This could be capacitors and inductors also dissipate power, thus wasting energy, the speakeruse.
